This card's effect that banishes up to 5 Spell Cards from each player's Graveyard is the effect that applies by activating this card. (It does not target. Each player can choose up to 5 Spell Cards in their Graveyard and banish them face-down.)

This card's effect that activates when a monster declares an attack starts a Chain. (It must be activated whenever either player's monster declares an attack. The player being attacked chooses whether or not to apply the listed "●" effect.
After a player adds one of the banished cards to their hand, they choose whether or not to discard the added card and negate the attack. (If they do not discard, the part of the effect that doubles any battle damage that player takes this turn is applied.)
Adding a banished card to the hand does not happen simultaneously with discarding the added card and negating the attack.
